Movie About Roger Maris: 61. Two very different baseball players who were aiming for one of the most illustrious records in sports history hit home runs at an amazing pace. The restrained Roger Maris (Barry Pepper) is far less well-liked than his hard-partying New York Yankee teammate Mickey Mantle (Thomas Jane), who many experts predict would break Babe Ruth's record of 60 home runs in a season. But in the summer of 1961, Maris overtakes Mantle and attempts to pass Ruth's milestone.
